Hunter Metts was born into a musical family in Nashville, TN, and began playing instruments at a young age. He gravitated toward avant-folk artists like Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes in his teenage years, falling in love with The Paper Kites, Gregory Alan Isakov, and Lord Huron. Their intentional lyrics and harmony-rich music became his north stars as he discovered his own voice and folk identity. After spending a few years working as a coder, Metts realized the nine-to-five life wasn’t for him and launched his music career. He released his debut single, “The River,” in 2021 and quit his day job to pursue music full-time in 2023. His debut EP, Monochrome, released June 2024, is a powerful introduction to his eclectic artistry. The six-track EP, is described by Metts as an “umbrella of love,” and draws from his most meaningful relationships and explores the many forms of love. “The biggest theme for me is the love you experience in life,” he says, explaining that love can be comforting, overwhelming, and universal.
